Blog 2/5 Content Marketing Tools & Techniques

Today we are looking at the Top 5 tools and techniques that every content marketer should know about…

1)     Storytelling

This quote from Seth Godin, Author and Entrepreneur rings true. In his book “All Marketers are Liars Tell Stories” Seth re-iterates that marketing now revolves around the stories we tell ourselves, and the stories we tell our customers. Storytelling lets you tell your story, and it lets you teach your customers (Godin, 2021).

There are many literary devices and storytelling techniques you can utilise to tell great stories and connect with your audience. Telling a story in chronological, or reverse chronological order, breaking the 4th wall, or using a specific point of view like an unrelatable narrator…these help make your story unique and will help you as a business create a story that can be transformed into different media forms, and be shared across multiple platforms (Narrative Devices: Definitions, Benefits and Tips, 2022).

2)     Videos

Many Brands are now producing videos to market themselves online. In fact, 83% of Marketers say that video content is now more important than ever (Team, 2020). Videos can be published online across multiple platforms and can contribute to different stages within a transactional campaign. Almost everyone has seen an advert pop up before their YouTube video plays. And now, with the introduction of video sharing apps such as TikTok and Instagram reels, the options are limitless. These short videos are entertaining, and can be relatable, funny, shareable, instructional, and informative (Nguyen & Mikolajczyk, 2021).

3)     Trello

An online project management tool for organising anything and everything. The tool can be used for free, and you can put so much detail and information into them, you can organise anything and everything from your content marketing campaign to your weekly dinners (Pinola, 2018).

“Project management apps turn ambitious ideas into workable plans. They put lists, tasks, and files into a centralized hub, so your team can collaborate.” - (Schreiber, 2016)

Trello uses Kanban boards which break down a project into small moving parts, then focuses on the status of each of those parts, rather than just giving and overall due date. Team members collaborate and update each board to make sure the project stays on track (Pinola, 2018).

 4)     Hot Jar

An optimization tool that helps digital marketers improve conversion rates. Hotjar was bought by Contentsquare in 2021 (Contentsquare, 2022).

Features include heatmapping, visual session recording, conversion funnel analytics, form analytics, feedback polls and surveys, and usability testing.” - (Contentsquare, 2022)
